The GY-VL53L0XV2V VL53L0X Time-of-Flight (ToF) Distance Sensor Module is a compact and accurate distance-measuring solution based on STMicroelectronics' VL53L0X FlightSense technology. Unlike conventional ultrasonic or reflective IR distance sensors, the VL53L0X calculates distance using the time taken for an emitted 940nm infrared laser pulse to travel to an object and return to the sensor.
The module can measure distances of up to approximately 2 meters, depending on the target, environment, and configuration. It communicates with a microcontroller through the I²C interface, making it easy to integrate with platforms such as Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, and other development boards.
The module typically includes onboard voltage regulation and level shifting, allowing the breakout to accept approximately 2.6V–5.5V input, while the VL53L0X sensor itself operates internally around 2.8V. The default I²C address is 0x29, and the XSHUT pin can be used for sensor shutdown and multi-sensor configurations.
Its compact size, fast response, and narrow optical field of view make it particularly useful for robot obstacle detection, wall following, object detection, presence sensing, gesture applications, and automated positioning systems.
